After 11 years, almost to the day, I am going back to the Philippines this November. Everyone knows it. I’ve been talking about it since I booked the flights a couple of months ago.
My previous trip was back in 2004. It was my first trip to Asia, and outside of Europe. I spent about half of the two-week holiday in Manila and the other half on the white beaches of Boracay. Guess which one I preferred.

Boracay of ten years ago is very different from what it is now. There’s even a Starbucks, I hear. As I’m not a big fan of crowds, I’ve chosen another up and coming destination: El Nido on the island of Palawan.
I’m currently in the process of booking accommodation with a help of a local Filipino friend who will be joining us. It’s good to have a local call up the hotels and get the best deals instead of going for the “safest alternative” on a booking site. I still want an “authentic” experience, not a whitewashed five-star resort. Let’s see how this pans out!
