5 Things You Must See in Rome and Vatican City

Rome may not have been built in a day, but I find that you can see almost all of the important sights in one, maybe two days, depending how much time you want to spend soaking in the ancient city’s atmosphere.

Here are my top picks for a quick city break in Rome and Vatican City.

1. Vatican Museums (Musei Vaticani)
This is an absolute must-see. You won’t find this much history under one roof anywhere else in the world.

2. Colosseum/Coliseum (Colosseo)
When in Rome (pun intended), visit the Colosseum before it’s too late. Apparently people keep stealing the stones.

3. Spanish Steps
Not much to see here, but you can walk in the footsteps of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday.

4. Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi)
The most iconic fountain in all of Rome. An estimated 3,000 Euros worth of coins are thrown into the fountain every day. Sounds like a fairly decent day rate to me.

5. Roman Forum (Forum Romanum/Foro Romano)
Nestled between the Capitoline and Palatine Hills, the Forum is filled with fragments of ancient Rome.
